Maintain Morale — Student Organizing Committee

Email Pressure Campaign

You probably agree with us that the Board of Trustee’s handling of marketing, transparency, and all other aspects of this crisis has been… lackluster, and completely opaque. As alumni, community members, or stakeholders, we can help to pressure the Board of Trustees to do better.

Email faq@northland.edu with your concerns about this potential closure or how the fundraising effort and future planning are being handled. These emails are being monitored by Northland staff and sorted by subject. Please remember to personalize this message for greater impact. To make your job a little easier, here are some suggested scripts that you can use as a starting point:

“As a concerned alumni of Northland College, I am writing to seek clarification on Northland’s current fundraising efforts and potential outcomes. I am aware that there are ongoing efforts by students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to come up with a sustainable vision for Northland’s future. Will the Board of Trustees accept and help enact an agreed upon community plan? Is there currently an effort from the Board to engage in or respond to community planning efforts?”

“As a concerned alumni and supporter of Northland College, I call on the Board of Trustees to pay careful attention to the organizing currently happening among the community of students, staff, faculty, alumni and other interested parties. It is important to me that whatever direction Northland takes, it is one that the community has envisioned and is passionate about enacting.”

“I would feel a lot more comfortable donating to Northland’s fundraising efforts if the Board of Trustees publicly acknowledged the current efforts of the Northland Community to create a sustainable plan for the future.”

“I will be withholding my donation to Northland College’s fundraising campaign unless the Board of Trustees releases a statement confirming that they will stand behind the community’s agreed-upon plan for the future.”

“I am interested in supporting the campaign to ensure Northland’s future but am deeply concerned about the lack of transparency and communication coming from the Board of Trustees and official Northland College channels. Without clear and regular updates about the actions of the Board and other leaders of the institution, it is difficult to get involved or trust that there is a plan for what happens after this campaign.”
